TifTuf, otherwise known as TifTuf Bermuda or TifTuf Hybrid Bermuda, is a lawn variety that is pretty incredible. It is the result of over 25 years of research and development at the University of Georgia, which is on the leading turf grass breeders across the world. TifTuf was chosen out of almost 30,000 Bermuda varieties – that’s a pretty impressive resume!
There are a huge range of reasons to decide on TifTuf as your turf choice, and we’ve included a few below.
TifTuf Bermuda turf requires around 38% less water than other grass varieties and does not go dormant during drought periods. If put under drought stress, TifTuf retains its quality and is fast to recover once the stress is over.
Another benefit is that TifTuf retains its colour during a range of seasons. Although it does go into a partial dormant state during winter (as it is a warmer-season variety), TifTuf still retains a lot more colour than other options. Additionally, once spring comes around, it gets greener much faster than other varieties!
Due to Tiftuf growing very densely, it is suited to high wear scenarios such as backyards and sports fields. It is also shade tolerant due to its fine blade structure, making it soft to walk on too.
A great aspect of TifTuf is its sustainability – due to it requiring less water than other grass varieties, it is a much more environmentally friendly choice across many applications.
Because TifTuf has a very fine leaf blade grows in a dense fashion, this allows it to be used in a variety of circumstances. Common applications include backyards, golf courses and sports fields.
Finally, TifTuf is strongly resistant to many types of common pests and weeds. This offers a superiority compared to other lawn types, as many grass varieties lack this component. Another benefit is that you can focus more on other things, such as mowing and watering, instead of extensive weed and pest maintenance.
