Treating Bindii – You need to take action now before the pricks come back!
Bindii is possibly the most annoying weed due to the pain it causes to our bare feet! Bindii is a low growing weed with a flower at its centre.

At maturity, the flower produces a prickly seed pod which is a menace during the warmer months when we are trying to enjoy our lawns.
Treatment
Bindii can be managed by hand or by applying a selective broadleaf herbicide like Lawn Solutions Australia All Purpose Weed Control. By blanket-spraying all affected areas with one of these selective Herbicides, the Bindii should die off within 7-10 days. These products will help to eradicate Bindii in all lawn types including Kikuyu and Couch and are safe to use on most varieties of Buffalo except the ST varieties. A couple of repeat applications may be required in order to kill off Bindies that continue to emerge.
Bindii grows in the Winter and go to seed in early Spring, so the best time to target Bindii is in Winter before it produces the seed pod and spreads further throughout your lawn.
The best way to keep on top of Bindii is through prevention. By maintaining your lawn regularly with fertiliser and watering, your lawn will be healthier and less susceptible to the infiltration of weeds like Bindii. Raising your lawn mower height is particularly important in winter and will help you to avoid scalping of your grass, which also makes your lawn more susceptible to weed invasion. When weeds do occur, it is important to take action early and get on top of them before they get out of control and are more difficult to manage.
